Tutor – Supporting Permanently Excluded (PEX) Students.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people facing educational challenges?

We are seeking a dedicated Specialist Tutor to join our team in supporting Permanently Excluded (PEX) students. In this vital role, you will work closely with the Local Authority to provide personalized tuition that helps these students re-engage with their education, develop their skills, and achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Individualised Tuition: Deliver tailored one-to-one or small group sessions in core subjects (Maths, English, Science) and/or vocational skills, according to each student’s needs and learning plan.
  • Support Educational Reintegration: Facilitate academic and personal development to help students transition back into mainstream education, alternative provision, or further training.
  • Monitor Progress: Assess, record and writing short reports on student progress, adapting teaching methods to meet changing needs and overcome learning barriers.
  • Engage Parents/Guardians: Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians to ensure a supportive learning environment at home.
  • Safeguard Student Welfare: Uphold and promote child protection and safeguarding policies, ensuring a safe and positive learning experience for all students.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience of working with students who have been excluded or have Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Strong knowledge of the UK curriculum and effective teaching practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in alternative education settings or pupil referral units (PRUs).
  • Knowledge of behavioural management techniques and strategies for engaging learners.
  • Ability to develop and deliver customised learning materials and plans.
