Protocol Education is excited to be recruiting a Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a welcoming and inclusive primary school. This role is perfect for someone passionate about helping children thrive and succeed in a supportive, engaging environment.
As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with the class teacher and SENCO, offering tailored support to help the child reach their full potential. You’ll be making a real difference to their learning experience while fostering their social and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support to a child with SEN, helping them engage with lessons, complete tasks, and feel confident in the classroom.
- Assist with learning by breaking tasks down into manageable steps, using resources and strategies that best suit the child's needs.
- Support emotional well-being by offering encouragement, building trust, and creating a calm, supportive environment.
- Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to implement learning plans and strategies tailored to the child’s individual needs.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to the teacher on the child’s academic and emotional development.
- Promote social skills by encouraging positive interactions with peers and supporting group activities.
- Ensure the child’s safety at all times, fostering a nurturing and inclusive school environment. ️
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with children is desirable (especially with SEN), but we’re happy to consider candidates with a passion for learning and supporting young people.
- A caring, patient, and proactive approach – you’ll be the child’s biggest supporter in and out of the classroom.
- Strong communication skills – you’ll need to work closely with the teacher, parents, and other professionals.
- The ability to adapt to the child’s needs, ensuring that they feel supported and understood every day.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant) are a bonus, but not a requirement.
- A good understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to providing a safe, inclusive environment for all children.
