Protocol Education is seeking a committed and adaptable Teaching Assistant to join a thriving primary school in Colchester on a full-time basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with pupils and teaching staff, supporting the academic and personal development of students. A valid driving license and access to a car are essential due to the location and potential need for travel.


Key Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide classroom support: Assist teachers in the preparation and delivery of engaging lessons across a range of subjects.
  • Support individual needs: Work 1:1 or in small groups to support pupils with varying needs, including those with special educational needs (SEND).
  • Encourage positive learning experiences: Help maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Monitor pupil progress: Provide feedback to teachers on student engagement and progress, helping to inform future planning.
  • Promote positive behaviour: Support students in following the school’s behaviour policies and help manage classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Assist with interventions: Lead or support targeted interventions to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Supervise activities: Help oversee break times, lunch periods, and school trips, ensuring pupil safety and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with staff: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for all pupils.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working within a primary school setting (desired but not essential).
  • A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to working within a school environment.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing attitude.
  • A valid UK driving license and access to a car.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
