Are you passionate about helping children with special needs thrive in the classroom?
Protocol Education is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant 1:1 to support a SEN child on a full-time basis in a primary school in Colchester. If you're ready to make a real difference in a child's learning journey, and enjoy the chance to work in a rewarding, varied environment, this could be the perfect role for you!
What’s the role about?
As a Teaching Assistant 1:1, you’ll work closely with a SEN child, providing tailored support to help them engage with their lessons, develop social skills, and feel confident in their abilities. You’ll work alongside the classroom teacher and other school staff to ensure the child’s individual learning needs are met. This is a highly rewarding role where your support will directly impact the child’s progress and overall experience at school!
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a SEN child, helping them stay focused, complete tasks, and engage with lessons.
- Encourage independence by fostering problem-solving, communication, and self-regulation skills.
- Adapt resources and teaching methods to suit the child’s learning needs, under the guidance of the class teacher.
- Support the child’s emotional well-being and social development, ensuring they feel safe and included in the classroom environment.
- Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to create an effective and supportive learning plan for the child.
- Monitor the child’s progress, providing regular feedback and assisting with assessment of their development.
- Assist with classroom management and support other students when necessary, ensuring a calm and positive learning environment for all.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience working with children, especially those with SEN, is preferred but not essential.
- A patient, caring, and empathetic approach to working with children with additional needs.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build a rapport with both the child and the teaching team.
- A proactive attitude with the flexibility to adapt to changing needs in the classroom.
- A level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or similar is a bonus, but not essential.
- A positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to learn and grow in the role.
