Full-Time SEND Teaching Assistant (TA) – Barnet

A fantastic SEND school in Barnet is looking to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with special educational needs and disabilities. This is a full-time position offering a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of students with additional learning and behavioral needs.

About the Role:
The ideal candidate will provide support to students in a nurturing, inclusive environment, helping them overcome challenges in their learning journey. Experience working in a school setting is preferred, but we also welcome candidates with backgrounds in youth work, sports coaching, care, or voluntary work with young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEND, helping them to achieve their academic potential and develop key life skills
  • Create a positive, calm, and safe learning environment, addressing each student's individual needs
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and other staff members to implement tailored learning strategies
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive environment that encourages students’ emotional and personal development
  • Provide encouragement and motivation to help students engage with their learning and grow in confidence
  • Communicate effectively with parents and other professionals involved in the students' development

The Successful Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children or young adults with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Be patient, compassionate, and empathetic with the ability to build trust and rapport with students
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate a creative, adaptable approach to supporting students with SEND
  • Be committed to making a difference in the lives of young people with additional needs
  • Be willing to collaborate with other staff and professionals to support the needs of the students

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young adults with SEND
  • A supportive, patient, and empathetic attitude toward students
  • A current DBS check (or willingness to apply for one through Protocol Education)
  • Excellent references
