Full Time Tutor – for Students with Complex Needs

We are looking for a Tutor to join a Specialist Post 16 Institution who provide highly bespoke, outreach and outcome focussed learning programmes to Higher Needs Funded learners with varied and complex needs. The programmes are delivered and supported in a range of community-based settings. All learners are supported additionally by LSA’s, at a minimum of 1:1.
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible Tutor, with strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, to plan and deliver Teaching, Learning and Assessment programmes to young adults with complex needs on an outreach basis.
Applicants must have appropriate teaching qualifications (DET, PGCE, Cert ED or equivalent, or who are committed to qualifying) and have experience of teaching/supporting young adults/children with additional needs.

1.3 Assesses Students’ needs and identifies potential barriers to learning.
1.4 Designs and develops individual/group learning programmes that meet identified and specific learning needs.
1.5 Sets SMART learning objectives, embedding English and Maths standards and appropriate curriculum referencing.
1.6 Adopts appropriate styles, resources and techniques and materials to deliver the programmes and meet learning objectives.
1.7 Continue to re-assess, using a designed ILP system, to further challenge Students’ progress and emerging needs.
2. Curriculum Development
2.1 Contributes to individual and group skills development of new programmes of study.
2.2 Writes programme aims and objectives and plans programme delivery.
2.3 Devises assessment when appropriate.
2.4 Evaluates and reviews the curriculum.
2.5 Conducts learner follow-up, particularly the evaluation of aims and objectives in relation to student outcomes.
3. Pastoral Care
3.1 Provides tutorial support for individuals and groups of Students as designated, incorporating aspects of safeguarding and Prevent strategies.
3.2 Helps Students identify and resolve matters, which impede their progress.
3.3 Documents individual student progress as procedures and processes direct.
3.4 Supports Students to develop Individual Learning Plans and review as appropriate.
4. Administration and Standards
4.1 Contributes to the effective and efficient running of the Department
4.2 Maintains appropriate files and records.
4.3 Controls resources as directed.
4.4 Implements National Policies, Procedures, and rules where appropriate.
4.5 Accepts and adheres to the Teaching Support Programme, Development and Policy and all stated stages within – undergoing associated informal and formal support processes as detailed.
5. General Responsibilities
5.1 Takes responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the well-being and welfare of Students.
5.2 Contributes to the attainment of strategic objectives, as appropriate.
5.3 Complies with all policies, practices, and procedures.

Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to teach students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and support English and/or Maths and related skills at formally Pre-Entry, Entry Level and Level 1 and above where appropriate.
(Higher Level Teaching Specialism may be sought to assist you when required).
2. Ability to develop appropriate materials and strategies to support Students.
3. Ability to negotiate and develop individual learning plans, set SMART learning objectives and track, monitor and review learner progress.
4. Ability to deliver individual and group teaching with differentiated activities.
5. Ability to work with adult Students.

Special Knowledge
1. Knowledge of adult English/Maths standards and appropriate curriculum.
2. Effective personal use of English and Maths standards.
3. A familiarity with FE curriculum for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
Experience
1. Experience of teaching students with learning difficulties, from moderate to complex.
2. Experience with relevant accreditation bodies, for example - Gateway and ASDAN.
Education/Qualification
1. Degree or equivalent.
2. Teaching qualification.
3. Adult Sector Teaching qualification.
