Protocol Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) specialist unit within a mainstream school in Central Bristol.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in supporting non-verbal pupils and a passion for inclusive education.
About the Role:
You’ll be working closely with a small group of pupils within a dedicated ASC unit, providing tailored support to meet individual needs. Responsibilities include:

Supporting children with ASD, particularly those who are non-verbal or have limited verbal communication.

Using tools such as PECS, Makaton, and visual supports to aid communication and understanding.

Helping to create a safe, predictable, and engaging learning environment.

Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and specialist professionals.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Experience working with children with ASD in an SEN or specialist setting.

Understanding of sensory processing needs and behaviour that challenges.

Confidence in or willingness to learn communication methods such as Makaton (training is desirable but not essential).

A calm, patient, and flexible approach to supporting individual needs.

Relevant TA/SEN qualifications are beneficial but not required.
