About the Role
Protocol Education is delighted to be recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Colchester. This rewarding role involves working with Year 5 children who require additional support with their learning. You’ll play a key role in helping lower-ability students thrive by working 1:1 or with small groups, tailoring your approach to their unique needs.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting Year 5 students who need extra help with classroom learning activities.
  • Working closely with the class teacher to adapt lesson materials and ensure every child feels supported and included.
  • Providing 1:1 or small group support, boosting confidence and encouraging active participation in lessons.
  • Using creative and engaging strategies to help children overcome learning challenges and achieve their goals.
  • ️ Building strong, positive relationships with students to foster a love for learning.

What We’re Looking For

  • ✅ Previous experience working with children in an educational setting, ideally with lower-ability students or those with SEN needs.
  • ✅ A nurturing, patient, and encouraging approach to working with children.
  • ✅ Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with teachers, parents, and school staff.
  • ✅ Adaptability and creativity in finding ways to make learning accessible and enjoyable for all.
  • ✅ A commitment to helping every child reach their full potential.

Requirements

  • Experience in a similar role is highly desirable.
  • A valid DBS check on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Passion for supporting children’s learning and development.
