Job Description: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Primary Teaching Assistant to join our team. As an SEN Primary Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of students with special educational needs, and ensuring they receive the individualized support and guidance they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with special educational needs, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet individual learning styles and needs.
- Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering differentiated lessons and activities that cater to the diverse needs of SEN students, and promote their engagement and progress across the curriculum.
- Support students with their academic and personal development, including literacy, numeracy, communication, social skills, and emotional regulation, and provide encouragement and reinforcement to help them achieve their learning goals.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to participate actively in their learning, and develop confidence and self-esteem.
- Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other members of the teaching team to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), and monitor and track student progress and attainment.
- Assist with personal care tasks, as required, to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of SEN students, and support them with their daily routines and activities.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, caregivers, and external professionals, and provide updates on student progress, achievements, and any concerns or issues that arise.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with students with special educational needs, preferably in a primary school setting.
- Understanding of different learning styles and strategies for supporting students with a range of SEN requirements, including but not limited to autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and emotional and behavioral difficulties.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team, and engage with a range of stakeholders.
- Relevant qualifications, such as a Teaching Assistant Certificate or a degree in Special Education, are desirable but not essential.
