SEMH Teaching Assistant – Support Students' Well-being and Growth

Location: Newcastle
Pay: £83.85 – £90 per day (depending on experience)

Are you passionate about supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? Protocol Education is seeking compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to join schools across Newcastle. This is a rewarding opportunity to help students overcome challenges and thrive in their education.

The Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.

  • Help students develop emotional regulation and coping strategies.

  • Implement personalised interventions to promote positive well-being.

  • Support students with behaviour management, using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.

  • Foster trusting relationships to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to support student progress.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs, either in education, care, or support settings.

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and emotional support.

  • Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.

  • Empathetic, adaptable, and resilient personality.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
