Job Description:

We have an opening for a SEND Teaching Assistant / Enabler at a highly regarded specialist school in Nottingham, catering to children aged 5 to 19 with PMLD. The students have very complex needs, with many being non-verbal and requiring PEG feeding and intimate care. Class sizes are limited to 8 pupils, allowing for excellent sensory activities and compassionate care.

This outstanding specialist school employs a variety of innovative teaching methods to maximise the learning and sensory experiences of their students. It is a large, well-resourced school with a welcoming atmosphere. Located near Nottingham with excellent public transport links, the school is easily accessible.

The role is full-time, five days a week, and has the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. Responsibilities include providing general in-class support, working one-on-one, and assisting small groups as needed. Experience with children with PMLD is essential, and you will be required to perform personal care and manual handling. Many of the children are non-verbal, so proficiency in Makaton is highly advantageous.

If you are a caring, friendly, and patient individual, this could be the perfect role for you. The ideal candidate will have experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant working with school-aged pupils with PMLD in a special needs environment. At Protocol Education, we value our teachers and support staff and recognise their hard work with competitive rates of pay to ensure their skills and experience are acknowledged.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.
