Protocol are seeking to recruit Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants for children with Special Educational Needs for long term work within the Newcastle area. The work is varied, but involves working with young people who exhibit often challenging behaviours, or have social, emotional and mental health needs. We are seeking flexible, adaptable and personable support assistants to provide valuable interventions for those young people, and aid their academic and pastoral development.

Does any of the below apply to you? 

-Have you worked in schools for children with social, emotional and mental health challenges?
-Have you worked with children with extreme behavioural issues?
-Do you have any 1 to 1 or group experience with SEN children  in any Key Stage setting?

We will consider teaching assistants who have worked in a mainstream setting with relevant skills and experience. 

You will demonstrate a professional approach and be able to take the initiative and work effectively with permanent staff and have the attitude to form good relationships and be able to communicate effectively with parents and other professionals. It is vital that you hold a valid, recognised qualification and/or have had at least 6 weeks recent experience of teaching within a SEN environment in the UK. 

You must:
• Be eligible to work in the UK 
• Have professional experience working with SEND children in the UK in the last 3 years
• Have up to date professional childcare related references (covering the last 2 years)
• Have an enhanced DBS disclosure on the Update Service or be happy to apply for one

Pay scale depends on skills and experience brought to the role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
