Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with additional needs? We are excited to be working with an excellent special school in Haywards Heath for 6-12 year olds with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC). The school are looking for a full-time support worker. The school believe that every child can flourish and are looking for a TA to join the team who believes they have the skillset to enable their pupils to achieve their full potential.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH/ASC needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and positive behavior.
  • Assist with academic, social, and emotional learning both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other professionals to develop tailored support plans.
  • Promote and implement strategies for emotional regulation and sensory support.
  • Support students with transitions throughout the school day.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to staff and families.
  • Work in line with safeguarding policies to ensure the welfare of all students.

About You

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young adults with SEMH/ASC needs in a school, care, or similar setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive, proactive, and empathetic approach to behavior management.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, or health & social care (e.g., CACHE Level 3, Teaching Assistant qualification, or similar).
  • Experience with strategies such as Team Teach, Makaton, or sensory integration.
  • Understanding of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
