SEMH Cover Supervisor

Job Description:

Job Duties:

  • Supervise and support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in the absence of the regular classroom teacher
  • Implement pre-planned lessons and ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Manage classroom behaviour and encourage positive student engagement
  • Provide feedback to regular teachers on student progress and behaviour
  • Support students with additional needs and adapt teaching strategies accordingly

Required Qualifications:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively

Education:

  • Minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant field

Experience:

  • Experience working in a school or educational environment
  • Experience supporting students with SEMH needs is desirable

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of SEMH and strategies to support students with these needs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures in an educational setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Additional training in behaviour management or special educational needs

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position with regular school hours
  • Working in a classroom environment with students with SEMH needs
  • Potential exposure to challenging behaviour and emotional situations

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
