Salary: £130 - £180 per day

The Role:
As a Secondary SEND Science Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, science-focused lessons that are tailored to the unique needs of each pupil. Your lessons will foster a deep understanding of key scientific concepts while encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving. You will work with students who present a range of SEND needs, including behavioural difficulties, ASD, ADHD and will employ a variety of behaviour management strategies and interventions to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Flexibility, creativity, and collaboration with the wider educational team will be essential to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver science lessons that meet the diverse educational needs of pupils, including adapting content to suit individual learning styles.
- Use evidence-based behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policies to maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment.
- Foster a discipline and supportive atmosphere that enables students to overcome barriers to learning, especially in the sciences.
- Observe, monitor, and assess student progress in scientific understanding using a variety of assessment methods.
- Differentiate teaching methods to ensure all pupils can access and succeed in the science curriculum, including modifications for SEN students.
- Actively participate in physical and practical science activities, ensuring a hands-on approach to learning when appropriate.
- Promote inclusivity, ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to excel in science and develop key life skills.
- Take an active role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
About You:
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a strong foundation in science teaching, ideally with experience in a SEND setting.
- Demonstrates empathy and patience when working with students who present challenging behaviours, particularly in a science learning context.
- Is proactive in managing and modifying pupil behaviour in a way that enhances the learning experience.
- Is well-organised, flexible, and able to manage a diverse classroom with resilience.
- Possesses a good sense of humour and maintains a positive attitude, especially when faced with the unique challenges of working with SEND students.
- Is physically fit and able to engage in activities that support the practical aspects of teaching science.
