We are looking for dedicated individuals to join the Music Department and deliver exceptional Music education to Key Stage 3 and 4 students, helping them explore their musical talents and develop both practical and theoretical skills.

Your Role

  • Plan and Deliver: Design and deliver engaging Music lessons for Key Stage 3 and 4 students. Lessons should integrate practical music-making with theoretical knowledge, encouraging students to develop their musicality in areas such as performance, composition, and music theory.

  • Assess and Feedback: Use both formative and summative assessments to track students' progress and provide constructive feedback that supports improvement in their musical development.

  • Learning Environment: Create an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment where students can thrive. Encourage participation in ensemble performances, individual music practice, and creativity in composition. Make sure all students, regardless of ability, feel confident exploring their musical potential.

  • Curriculum Delivery: Teach a broad range of musical topics including music theory, historical music appreciation, and practical skills such as instrumental or vocal performance. Foster an understanding of a variety of musical genres and cultures.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Music Department and across the school to deliver a cohesive and enriching music curriculum. Support extra-curricular music activities, including choirs, orchestras, or school productions.

  • Professional Development: Actively participate in departmental meetings and engage with ongoing professional development to continually enhance your skills as a music educator.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you will need:

  • Qualifications: QTS and an Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service.

  • Skills and Experience:

    • A strong background in teaching Music at Key Stage 3 and 4 level, with a focus on both practical music-making and theoretical learning.
    • Expertise in teaching music theory, composition, and a variety of performance skills, with experience in leading ensembles and fostering student engagement in music.
    • Proficiency in a range of musical instruments or vocal techniques is desirable, but a comprehensive understanding of music education in a secondary school setting is essential.
  • Passion: A genuine enthusiasm for music and a desire to share this passion with students. The ability to inspire students to appreciate and explore music in various forms and to develop their musical talents is key.

  • Creativity and Innovation: The ability to deliver lessons in creative, engaging ways that keep students interested and motivated. Using technology or modern teaching methods to enhance learning can be an asset.

  • Positive Attitude: A professional and approachable manner, with the resilience and energy required to motivate and support students from a range of backgrounds and abilities.
