Resource Centre Officer

The role : to manage and develop our school library, promoting reading and literacy across the school community. This role requires an organised and enthusiastic individual to oversee the Learning Resource Centre, manage its budget, and create a welcoming environment for students.

Key Responsibilities

Library Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Learning Resource Centre.

  • Implement and review the School Library policy.

  • Maintain and develop library resources within the allocated budget.

  • Ensure library software and student accounts are efficiently managed.

  • Work with IT support to maintain functional equipment and ensure compliance with health & safety regulations.

Student Support

  • Assist students in selecting appropriate reading materials.

  • Supervise the library during student breaks and form time.

  • Coordinate the work of student library assistants, prefects, and volunteers.

  • Create a calm and productive learning environment.

  • Support students in developing research and library skills.

Curriculum & Literacy Development

  • Organise and facilitate library lessons and reading interventions.

  • Work with teachers to ensure the library supports the curriculum.

  • Support the Literacy Coordinator with relevant learning resources.

  • Promote reading through events, book recommendations, and school-wide initiatives.

Promoting Literacy in the School Community

  • Organise reading events such as World Book Day.

  • Introduce students to new authors and literature.

  • Represent the library at Open Days and public events.

General Duties

  • Provide administrative support and assist with general school duties.

  • Participate in training, development, and staff meetings as required.

  • Assist with first aid for students and staff when necessary.

  • Comply with safeguarding, health & safety, GDPR, and equality policies.

  • Maintain a professional and positive representation of the school.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
