Role: Higher Level Teaching Assistant - SEN school and Local Authorities in Sunderland, South Tyneside, or Gateshead
Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team at a SEN school or support one of our Local Authorities in Sunderland, South Tyneside, or Gateshead. As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the educational development and progress of students with special needs.
Key Responsibilities
The role of Higher Level Teaching Assistant will involve leading small intervention groups for English and Mathematics, as well as providing cover for planned absences within the school. You will also have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities, such as:
- Independently teaching classes
- Managing and supervising other learning support staff
- Assisting with lesson plans and classroom preparation
- Providing extra assistance to students with special needs
- Recording and reporting student progress to the teacher
- Marking work and providing constructive feedback
- Motivating and encouraging students to reach their full potential
- Supervising students during school trips and activities
- Attending meetings and collaborating with other staff members
Requirements
We are looking for a candidate with the following skills and qualities:
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with both teachers and students
- Active listening skills and the ability to empathise with children
- Compassion and sensitivity towards students with special needs
- Strong knowledge of the curriculum and teaching methods
- Proficiency in using a computer and relevant software
- Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing situations
- Maturity, professionalism, and a positive attitude

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
