We are looking for an enthusiastic Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a dynamic primary school team. As an HLTA, you’ll be integral to the success of the school, working alongside teachers to ensure every child gets the best possible learning experience.
What’s the role about?
As an HLTA, you will be supporting the classroom teacher in delivering high-quality teaching and learning across a range of subjects. You’ll work with small groups of students, provide one-to-one support where needed, and help manage classroom activities. This role involves a mix of planned teaching support, helping to cover classes, and taking the lead on certain activities or lessons. You’ll be an essential part of the school’s day-to-day operations, helping to ensure students thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the classroom teacher in delivering engaging lessons and activities for the whole class.
- Lead small groups and one-to-one sessions for students who need additional support or enrichment.
- Provide tailored support to students with special educational needs (SEN), helping them overcome barriers to learning.
- Assist with planning and preparing lessons and learning materials under the guidance of the teacher.
- Assess student progress and help to track their academic development.
- Manage classroom behaviour, ensuring that students remain engaged, motivated, and on task.
- Collaborate with the teaching team and other support staff to ensure a positive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Lead whole-class lessons or interventions in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring continuity in learning.
- Support students’ emotional well-being by fostering positive relationships and providing a safe learning space.
What we’re looking for:
- Level 4 HLTA qualification or equivalent.
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, with experience leading groups or classes.
- Strong understanding of the primary school curriculum and educational strategies.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Classroom management skills to keep students focused and motivated.
- A proactive, positive attitude, with a genuine passion for education and supporting children’s learning journeys.
- Experience with SEN students is desirable but not essential.
- A team player who is flexible and adaptable to the needs of the school and students.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
