About the Role
Protocol Education is excited to be recruiting for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a fantastic team at a primary school in Harlow. If you’re an experienced TA with a passion for supporting both teachers and students, and you’re ready to take your role to the next level, we want to hear from you!
As an HLTA, you’ll be working closely with the class teacher to deliver high-quality learning experiences to students, leading small groups and providing tailored support to children who may need extra help. You’ll play an essential role in ensuring that each child receives the best support to thrive in their education.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in planning and delivering lessons across a range of subjects.
- Lead small group sessions and provide 1:1 support to students, tailoring lessons to meet individual learning needs.
- Assess and monitor student progress, helping the teacher identify areas where further support is needed.
- Support the learning environment by preparing resources, managing classroom behavior, and ensuring a positive atmosphere for all students.
- Provide feedback to both students and teachers on progress, achievements, and areas for development.
- Work with students who have additional needs, adapting learning materials and approaches to ensure inclusion.
- Assist with the management of behavior, using positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies to support students' social and emotional development.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure that the curriculum and support strategies meet the needs of all students.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school, with a proven track record of supporting children’s learning.
- HLTA qualification or equivalent (or relevant experience) is essential.
- Strong understanding of the national curriculum and strategies for supporting children in a classroom setting.
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to lead small groups and support individual learning needs, using initiative and adapting to various learning styles.
- A patient and positive approach, with a genuine desire to help children succeed academically and personally.
- Team player – you will need to collaborate effectively with teachers, SENCOs, and other staff members.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive environment for all children. ️

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
