About the role:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) to join a local primary school based in the heart of Cambridge. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils experiencing temporary or longer-term emotional challenges, providing them with the tools and support they need to manage their emotions and build resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver individual and small group support sessions focusing on emotional literacy.
  • Utilise a variety of engaging activities such as games, role-play, and arts and crafts to support children’s emotional development.
  • Create and maintain a safe, nurturing environment.
  • Address a range of emotional needs including recognising emotions, self-esteem, social skills, friendship skills, anger management, and coping with loss and bereavement.
  • Collaborate with class teachers, senior leaders, and the SENCo to identify and prioritize children for ELSA support.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of emotional literacy and its importance in child development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
