Behaviour Support Assistant (1:1 SEN Support)
Location: Primary School, Harlow, Essex
Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary (ASAP until end of academic year)
Salary: £84 - £94 per day | Paid every Friday! (depending on experience)
About the Role:
Protocol Education is looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a SEN pupil at a primary school in Harlow. This rewarding role involves working with a child who requires additional support with their behaviour, ensuring they have the best opportunities to thrive both academically and socially.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SEN team to implement strategies and provide support to help the pupil manage their behaviour, stay engaged with lessons, and build positive relationships with their peers.
The role is set to start ASAP and will continue until the end of the academic year (July 2024).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support for a SEN pupil with behavioural needs, helping them develop positive behaviour strategies and managing emotions in the classroom.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) and support the pupil in achieving their learning and social goals. ✨
- Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to support the pupil during moments of frustration or difficulty.
- Promote social inclusion and encourage the pupil to interact positively with peers, building confidence and teamwork.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff members to support the pupil’s academic and personal development.
- Observe the pupil’s behaviour and record key patterns and progress to inform future support strategies.
- Support the pupil during break times and transitions between lessons, ensuring their well-being and safety.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure adherence to school policies, particularly around safeguarding and behaviour management.
Key Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children with behavioural or emotional needs is highly desirable.
- A genuine passion for supporting children’s emotional development and learning.
- Experience with behaviour management strategies (e.g., Team Teach, Positive Behaviour Management) is a plus.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm and composed in challenging situations. ♀️
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with both children and staff. ️
- A proactive and adaptable approach to supporting children with a variety of needs.
- An enhanced DBS check (Protocol Education will assist in this process if needed). ️♂️
