About the Role
Protocol Education is excited to be recruiting for a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming primary school in Colchester. This rewarding role focuses on providing dedicated support to a Year 6 student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and challenging behaviour. The student may not access the main classroom for all learning activities, so flexibility and creativity are key!
✨ What You’ll Be Doing ✨
- Supporting a Year 6 student on a 1:1 basis, tailoring learning activities to meet their individual needs.
- Creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment to help the child achieve their potential.
- Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt lessons and strategies in line with the child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
- Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour with patience, empathy, and proven strategies.
- ️ Supporting the development of social, emotional, and communication skills through structured and creative activities.
- Monitoring progress and providing regular feedback to staff and parents.
What We’re Looking For
- ✅ Experience working with children with additional needs, particularly ASD and behavioural challenges.
- ✅ Confidence in behaviour management and a calm, consistent approach to working with children.
- ✅ A friendly, adaptable attitude with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
- ✅ Excellent teamwork and communication skills, ensuring collaboration with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
- ✅ A genuine passion for supporting children to thrive in their education and personal development.
Requirements
- Experience in a similar role is highly desirable.
- A valid DBS check on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
