Job Title: SLD Teaching Assistant
Location: Newcastle
Salary: £90-100 per day
Want to be part of something meaningful—and help children with complex needs thrive?
A specialist school in Newcastle that’s looking for a long-term SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference by supporting children with complex learning needs, helping them to engage with education in a way that works for them.
These pupils need more than just a classroom—they need patience, encouragement, and someone who understands that progress looks different for everyone. With the right support, they can achieve more than many people expect—and you could be part of that journey.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Providing one-to-one and small group support for children with severe and complex learning difficulties
-
Assisting with personal care and supporting pupils with sensory or physical needs
-
Helping pupils access learning through creative, individualised approaches
-
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to deliver personalised support
-
Celebrating progress, no matter how small, and helping pupils build confidence and independence
Who we’re looking for:
Kindness, patience, and a calm, positive outlook are key for this role. You don’t need previous experience in a school—what matters is your willingness to learn, your ability to connect with children who communicate in different ways, and your commitment to making a difference. Experience in care, SEND, or working with children is a bonus, but not essential.
